JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Asante Gold has appointed Bash Ahmed director and VP production and development for its Kubi gold project, in Ghana, effective immediately.

“We welcome Ahmed to the Board, and look forward to working closely with him to advance Kubi to production,” the Vancouver based gold company noted in a statement on Thursday.

Ahmed, a Ghanaian national, who currently resided in Obuasi, was a mining engineer with over 30 years of experience in mine operations, planning, production and management.

“This wealth of expertise gained him the position of mine manager at Obuasi, one of the world's foremost underground gold mines, producing up to 1.8-million tonnes a year. In this capacity, Ahmed managed a workforce of over 1 000, with an annual budget of $100-million,” Asante advised.

Asante had granted Ahmed incentive stock options to buy up to 220 000 common shares at a price of $0.15 a share for a five-year period.

The company was continuing to evaluate the best options to advance Kubi. Further information would be released as available.

Asante also announced that Jag Sandhu had resigned from the board. “We thank Sandhu for his solid commitment to the company during its formative years and look forward to continue working with him in the future as a consultant on a fee for services basis.”
