Centaurus to start exploration at Salobo West

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Brazil-focused explorer Centaurus Metals has been awarded a key environmental licence for its Salobo West copper/gold project, prompting the ASX-listed company to fast-track its maiden exploration programme at the asset.

Centaurus on Tuesday said that with the receipt of the licence much earlier than anticipated, the company is now in a position to start a detailed programme of non-ground disturbing field activities, prior to the onset of the wet season.

Ground-based field activities will start before the end of September, and this work will likely be completed concurrently with a detailed airborne geophysical survey.

MD Darren Gordon told shareholders that the early grant of the key environmental licence gave the company the ability to begin ground-based exploration in the next four weeks, opening up a critical window which would allow Centaurus to make substantial progress before the start of the wet season.

“Having targets of this scale and quality is an exceptional opportunity for a junior company in a world-class mineral province such as this, which historically has been dominated by much larger companies.”
