Precious metals producer Americas Gold and Silver has halted mining and processing operations at the Cosalá mine, in Mexico, after a group of individuals, including unionised workers, blocked access to facilities.

The company, which trades on the TSX and NYSE American, said on Monday that it had filed legal motions with the Mexico state and federal governments and that it remained in good-faith discussions with representatives of the certified union.

“Americas firmly believes that worker and community interests are best served by lifting the protest and not through an illegal and unproductive blockade that is damaging to all stakeholders.  The company hopes to resolve this dispute in a timely fashion,” it said in a statement.

Americas traded 2.81% lower at C$3.79 a share 14:45 in Toronto on Monday. Earlier in the day, it fell as low as C$3.62 a share.
