The Geological Society of South Africa’s (GSSA’s) Northern Cape branch will host a West Coast Diamonds event and excursion on May 17 and 18, in the Northern Cape.

The event will be hosted at the Country Club Lodge, in Port Nolloth, and feature speakers from Paleostone Mineral Consultants and Mining, the University of Stellenbosch, Trigon Adamas and Namdeb Diamond Corporation.

Among the speakers will be Trigon Adamas director and managing partner Gregory Katz, who has more than 35 years of experience in diamond trading, Namdeb senior geologists Collin Mbangu and Deoné Strauss, Paleostone director Lyndon de Meillon, as well as University of Stellenbosch research fellow Mike de Wit.

Notably, De Meillon is a founding member of Gem Diamonds, the first listed company to mine alluvial diamonds along the Middle Orange River in South Africa.

The excursion will involve State-owned diamond miner Alexkor hosting a field trip to alluvial diamond deposits in Kleinzee, in the Northern Cape.

The event is being organised by Lisani Geological Services founder and MD Loni Gallant, who has two decades of mining industry experience throughout Africa. She is also the chairperson of GSSA’s Northern Cape branch.
