PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Metals miner MMG is hopeful that concentrate trucking from its Las Bambas copper project, in Peru, will resume in the coming days as regional unrest quiets down.
MMG has previously reported that logistics at the Las Bambas operation were temporarily disrupted by ongoing community protests, following the death of a community member on October 14, following conflict with police.
Operations at Las Bambas had remained unaffected by the unrest.
The miner told shareholders on Monday that the process of restoring calm in local communities and reopening essential infrastructure was now under way.
The company expected key road transport logistics to be restored progressively, via an alternate route. Concentrate trucking will resume progressively over the coming days and shipments from the Port of Matarani should restart in late October or early November, when sufficient quantities of concentrate have been delivered to port.
MMG on Monday assured stakeholders that the company remained committed to working with the government and communities to support dialogue and build enduring solutions in the region.
