PERTH (miningweekly.com) – First gas has flown from the Sole gas project, offshore Victoria, to the Orbost gas processing plant, ASX-listed Cooper Energy reported this week.

The first gas flow marked a critical milestone for the project, allowing for the second and final phase of the commissioning.

Gas produced from the Sole field is being used to commission the plant’s raw gas processing facilities, and while initial production and processing levels will be at small volumes, gas production is expected to increase gradually as the second phase commissioning progresses towards completion.

Cooper Energy told shareholders that the satisfaction of the commissioning activities would enable the start of gas supply from Sole to customers under long-term contracts, with full production rate targeted for March 2020.

At full production, the Sole gas field is expected to produce 24 PJ a year.
