Production at the Bakubung Platinum Mine (BPM) has been delayed, but is expected to begin as soon as possible after the commissioning process of the BPM processing plant has been completed.

In February, JSE-listed Wesizwe Platinum advised that the test run of the main system of the BPM processing plant was completed on January 26.

It also indicated that the cold and hot commissioning of the BPM processing plant was expected to begin in March or April, after the deficiencies or snags which were identified during the test run have been resolved and rectified.

Hot commissioning was planned from March 23 to 30 (being seven days of continuous operation); however, steady-state operation was not achieved owing to several challenges during this period.

It is envisaged that these challenges will be resolved swiftly and that commissioning of the BPM processing plant will begin before the end of May.
