PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Rare earths miner Lynas Corporation has marked the first step of the construction of its rare earths processing plant in Kalgoorlie with the award of a $15-million contract to Metso Outotec to supply the plant’s kiln.
The 110-m-long, 1 500 t kiln is the largest and longest lead time piece of equipment required for the plant’s operation, and was an important milestone in the development of the new processing plant, said Lynas CEO and MD Amanda Lacaze.
“We are making good progress on the project, and we look forward to working with Metso Outotec on the engineering and supply of the kiln.
Lynas in January selected Kalgoorlie as the site for its new cracking and leaching plant in Australia as part of its 2025 growth plans. The new plant will upgrade the rare earth concentrate from the Mt Weld operation, which is currently exported to Malaysia.
