AngloGold Ashanti chairperson Maria Ramos has welcomed new nonexecutive directors Diana Sands and Jinhee Magie to the company’s board, stating that the depth and breadth of their expertise would add significant value to the business.

The appointment of Sands and Magie will be in effect from June 1.

Sands will serve as a member of the remuneration and human resources committee, as well as the social, ethics and sustainability committee, while Magie will serve as a member of the audit and risk committee, as well as the investment committee.

Sands retired from aerospace company Boeing in 2020, where she served as executive officer and senior VP of the internal governance and administration office, overseeing a diverse team including ethics, compliance, security and internal audit. Prior to this, she served as Boeing’s corporate controller.

Sands has more than 30 years of business experience in senior executive, finance and governance positions across multiple industries. She has an MBA from Northwestern University and a BBA from the University of Michigan.

After 14 years with mining company Lundin Mining, Magie retired in 2022 from her position as CFO and member of Lundin’s executive committee responsible for the strategic plan and vision of the company. She has extensive public company experience in the areas of finance, mergers and acquisitions, and people leadership, particularly within the metals and mining sector.

Magie holds a BCom degree in accounting from the University of Toronto. After graduating, she joined accounting firm Ernst & Young where she became a certified public accountant.
